Frequently Asked Questions

Red Light therapy

What is red light therapy? Red light therapy is a non-invasive and very safe treatment suitable for various conditions and age groups. Many medical studies suggest that red light therapy has no adverse side-effects. Our red light panels produce red light and near infrared light wavelengths and do not contain ultraviolet rays. This means they are safe for regular use and cannot cause sunburn or tanning of the skin. The key points are: Red light therapy is non-invasive and considered very safe for all ages and a variety of conditions. Numerous medical studies have found no adverse side effects from red light therapy treatments. The specific red and near-infrared wavelengths used do not contain any UV rays. Because there is no UV exposure, red light therapy is safe for regular, repeated use without risk of sunburn or skin tanning.

What are the benefits of red light therapy? Red light therapy is a natural, non-invasive phototherapy that has been shown to decrease damaging oxidative stress and initiate tissue repair and regeneration. Other benefits of red light therapy include: Decreases inflammation and pain Promotes cell repair and regeneration Helps with injuries, chronic fatigue and autoimmune conditions Increases cellular energy levels Increases collagen production Rejuvenates and improves skin appearance Resolves skin issues like rosacea, acne, scars and stretch marks Helps alleviate insomnia and sleep disturbances Helps improve mental health, reducing symptoms of depression and anxiety Enhances athletic performance and supports weight loss goals Improves mitochondrial function and cellular energy production No known side effects from red light treatments Red light therapy works by exposing the body to specific red and near-infrared wavelengths of light that can penetrate into cells and tissues. This light energy is absorbed by cellular photoreceptors, initiating a cascade of metabolic events that optimise cellular function.

How should I prepare for a session? It’s recommended to keep your body free from any harsh chemicals, make up and oils, including lotion, and wear comfortable clothing you can easily take off. Hydration before and after the treatment is important.

How long does a session last? Sessions can last from 5-20 minutes depending on the purpose of your session. Your first session will include a sensitivity test to see if you react in any way to the therapy.

Hyperbaric Oxygen therapy

What is a hyperbaric oxygen therapy? Our hyperbaric chamber is a soft shell chamber that allows our clients to breathe up to 10 times more oxygen at greater than normal atmospheric pressure. This increases the amount of oxygen in the blood and tissues.

What happens during a session? When you enter the chamber, it will initially appear smaller, but within five minutes, it will fully inflate, providing plenty of space for you to lie down comfortably. As the chamber pressurises, you may feel pressure in your ears. To relieve this, try equalising by closing your mouth, pinching your nose, and gently blowing, yawning, or turning your head from side to side. You will hear a slight hissing sound as the chamber reaches the prescribed pressure, where you will remain for at least an hour. During decompression, you may notice ear popping and a cooler temperature. Just breathe normally and relax.

What should you not use a hyperbaric oxygen chamber? Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy is an non-invasive and typically safe method of treatment, beneficial for people of all ages. However, as with any treatment or therapy there are situations in which hyperbaric oxygen therapy may not be suitable for you. As it is non-invasive therapy, there are very few contraindications. Some contraindications include: Pregnancy, untreated pneumothorax, severe unmanaged COPD, bullous lung disease, inflammation of the paranasal sinuses, history of epilepsy, history of pneumothorax, treatment with certain drugs (e.g. Adriamycin, Cis-platinum, Bleomycin, Disulfiram), a pacemaker, diving and flying 24 hours before and after oxygen therapy treatment, implanted hearing aid and certain chemotherapies. Our staff will check your medical history for contraindications and answer any further questions you may have.

What are the benefits of hyperbaric oxygen therapy? Hyperbaric oxygen therapy provides a holistic approach to supporting the body's healing and regenerative processes by saturating tissues with high levels of oxygen. Oxygen is the fundamental fuel source for cells and its absence is linked to disease states. When the body is challenged and needs to recover, increasing oxygen availability can provide a wide range of therapeutic benefits. Some of the key benefits of HBOT include improved blood circulation, reduced inflammation and pain, accelerated recovery from injuries or surgery, increased energy levels, and stimulation of the body's innate healing responses. HBOT has been shown to mobilise stem cells and immune cells, which can promote tissue repair and regeneration. Beyond just healing physical injuries, HBOT provides anti-aging benefits by improving collagen production and facilitating the repair of collagen, bone, and cartilage. It can destroy anaerobic bacterial infections and improve outcomes for autoimmune conditions like arthritis, Crohn's disease, and ulcerative colitis. HBOT creates a oxygen-rich internal environment that has ripple effects throughout the entire body by supporting and optimising the function of the immune system and cellular processes. This holistic therapy can increase energy, vitality, and even athletic performance by maximizing oxygen delivery and utilisation. In essence, hyperbaric oxygen is a powerful therapeutic tool that harnesses oxygen's fundamental role as the source of cellular fuel to facilitate healing, reduce inflammation, combat infection, and promote tissue regeneration systemically.

How many sessions will I need? The number of hyperbaric oxygen therapy sessions required can vary significantly from one individual to another. This is because the therapeutic effects are cumulative and compounded over multiple exposures, rather than fully realised after just a single session. Some clients may experience noticeable benefits quite quickly after their first session. However, for many others it takes repeated sessions before visible changes or improvements become apparent in their specific condition or pathophysiology. The cumulative, compounded nature of hyperbaric oxygen therapy means that exposing the body to this oxygen-rich environment consistently, through a series of back-to-back sessions, is often needed to achieve optimal therapeutic results. The specific number of sessions recommended depends on the client's unique medical history, condition being treated, and individual response to the therapy. Rest assured, our team closely monitors client progress and adjusts protocols as needed to ensure the compounded benefits can take full effect over the appropriate course of treatment sessions for that individual. Consistent adherence to the prescribed regimen is key to maximising the cumulative therapeutic impact.

Is there anything I need to do before a session? For your hyperbaric oxygen therapy session, you can simply wear comfortable clothing that doesn't restrict your breathing or movement. However, it's important to avoid using products with strong chemical scents before your session, such as perfumes, deodorants, and hairsprays. The enclosed chamber environment can concentrate these types of fragrances, which could be irritating or unpleasant when inhaling pure oxygen. Additionally, you should refrain from consuming caffeine, nicotine, alcohol, and other stimulants for a period before and immediately after your hyperbaric treatment. These substances can influence your body's ability to properly absorb and utilise the increased oxygen levels during therapy. Following these simple guidelines will help create the ideal internal and external conditions for you to fully benefit from the hyperbaric oxygen treatment.

How long does a session last? A session can range from 60-90 minutes depending on the purpose of the treatment. You will need to arrive about 15 minutes beforehand to go through some medical history and complete your consent form.
